Bergenin Function & Application:
1. Antitussive Effect
Bergenin can inhibit the cough center in the medulla oblongata, reduce the sensitivity of the cough reflex, regulate the sensitivity of airway nerves, and decrease the conduction of cough impulses.
2. Expectorant Effect
Bergenin increases the secretion of respiratory glands, dilutes sputum, reduces sputum viscosity, and promotes ciliary movement, thereby enhancing the ability to expel sputum. Relieve the symptoms of excessive and sticky phlegm that is difficult to cough up, and improve the patency of the respiratory tract.
3. Anti-inflammatory Effect
Bergenin is an adjuvant treatment for chronic airway inflammation (such as chronic bronchitis and asthma), alleviating symptoms like coughing and shortness of breath.
Relieve local redness, swelling and pain caused by non-infectious inflammations such as pharyngitis and rhinitis.
4. Antioxidant Effect
Bergenin eliminates free radicals in the body (such as superoxide anions and hydroxyl radicals), inhibits oxidative stress responses, protects cells from oxidative damage, and may delay tissue aging and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
5. Antifungal Effect
Bergenin has a certain inhibitory effect on fungi such as Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans
6. Antibacterial Effect
Bergenin has a mild inhibitory effect on bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli
7. Immune Regulation
Bergenin improves the immune status of the body by enhancing the phagocytic function of macrophages or regulating the activity of T lymphocytes
8. Liver Protective Effect
Bergenin can alleviate chemical liver injury (such as liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride), and the mechanism may be related to antioxidation and inhibition of hepatocyte apoptosis.
9. Anti-tumor potential
Bergenin has an inhibitory effect on the proliferation of some tumor cells (such as lung cancer and liver cancer cells),
and may exert its effect through pathways such as inducing apoptosis and inhibiting angiogenesis
