Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (INN name: Hypromellose), also have simplified the hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, abbreviation), it is to belong to a variety of mixed non-ionic cellulose ether. It is a semi-synthetic, inactive, viscoelastic polymer used as a thickener, dispersant, binder, excipient, oil-resistant coating, filler, emulsifier, and stabilizer

Application in the pharmaceutical field:

HPMC is mainly used as drug excipients in the pharmaceutical field to improve the fluidity and compressibility of drugs, and as a rate-controlled polymer material for slow-release preparations. It also acts as a binder for tablets, helps them form, and slowly releases the drug in the gastrointestinal tract.
