Function and application
1. Antibacterial and antifungal effects:
Shikimic acid is an important metabolic product of plants and microorganisms, and can be used as raw material of antibacterial and antifungal agents.
2. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects:
Shikimic acid inhibits platelet aggregation by affecting arachidonic acid metabolism,
thus inhibiting arteriovenous thrombosis and cerebral thrombosis. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
3. Anti-cancer effect:
Shikimic acid can be used as an intermediate of antiviral and anticancer drugs, and is an important raw material for the synthesis of some anti-tumor drugs.
4. Antiviral effect:
It is a key starting material for synthesizing the neuraminidase inhibitor oseltamivir phosphate, which is used to treat avian influenza.
5. Anti-thrombosis:
Studies have shown that shikimic acid and its derivatives have an effect on the cardiovascular system in terms of anti-thrombosis and inhibition of platelet aggregation
for example, it can prolong the blood clotting time in mice.
6. Improve cerebral ischemia:
Shikimic acid and its derivatives can improve cerebral ischemia by reducing the volume of cerebral infarction after focal cerebral ischemia,
reducing nerve function score, reducing the degree of cerebral edema and increasing cerebral blood flow in ischemic areas.
