Function and Application

Platycodin D is a major active component extracted from platycodin, which has a variety of pharmacological effects, including but not limited to the following aspects:

1. Anti-inflammatory effect:

Platycodon D can inhibit the activation of NF-κB, which can inhibit the expression of iNOS and COX-2 induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 

and also inhibit the production of LPS-induced inflammatory cytokines, such as PGE2.

2. Hypoglycemic effect:

By enhancing the activity of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) α, platycodon D can inhibit the expression of peroxidase proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) γ2 

and CCAAT/ enhancer binding protein (C/EBP) α, thereby enhancing lipid metabolism and inhibiting lipogenesis and accumulation.

3. Anti-tumor effect:

Platycodon D can not only inhibit the proliferation of various tumor cells, such as skin cancer, human leukemia, ovarian cancer, breast cancer and colorectal cancer, 

but also induce tumor cell apoptosis by mediating lost-nest apoptosis and activating the phosphorylation of stress-activated protein kinases

4. Liver protection:

Platycodon platycodon D plays an antioxidant role by increasing the expression of glutathione S-transferase, Bcl-2 like protein and peroxidase gene IV, 

so as to inhibit the liver damage caused by oxidative stress.

5. Immune enhancement:

Platycodon D can promote the differentiation of ConA protein, lipopolysaccharide and spleen cell antigen, and enhance the antigenic activity of IgG1, IgG2a 

and IgG2b in mouse serum, thus enhancing the cellular and humoral immunity of the body.

6. Other effects: 

Platycodon D also has inhibition of melanin production, neuroprotective effect and stimulation of rat pancreatic exocrine and other effects
